Australian Youth Squad - April 2023 Camp

Published Thu 27 Apr 2023

Team Australia Youth Squad had an excellent second camp for the 2023 season.

The second camp was again held at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) between the 11th – 21st of April. The Team Australia Youth Squad is overseen by National Pathway Coach Krisztina Szedlak, Head Coach Ana Mendigutxia, and Assistant Coach Rebecca Maher.

The second Team Australia Youth Squad camp consisted of 19 athletes from New South Wales (2), Queensland (4), Western Australia (7), and Victoria (6).

The April camp was demanding for both athletes and coaches, as the squad flew directly from the Australian National Championships in Perth to Canberra to begin the camp. While challenging for all, the camp was very successful. The athletes continued to work on and refine the new Combination routine that was choreographed in the January camp. The athletes showed great dedication and motivation throughout the entirety of the camp no matter the circumstances, as well as showing excellent teamwork and comradery within the squad. The AIS facility was exceptional and helped facilitate an excellent experience for the squad.

This camp was the final stage of the selection for the final team that will travel to the World Aquatics Youth World Championships in Athens, Greece, from the 30th of August to the 3rd of September, where we aim for a top-ten performance.

The final selected team will be announced in the coming weeks (1st of May).
